Charles Leonard Mitchell



Charles, of counsel to the firm, is an experienced attorney whose practice emphasizes labor and employment issues and estate planning.

Charles has represented many employers in fair employment VII defense and employment litigation. He has also represented numerous employees in employment disputes and litigation and recently settled a discrimination case with a major airline.

Charles began his career as an Associate Counsel with Jackson Lewis Schnitzler & Krupman representing health care institutions and major retailers in union elections, strikes, picket demonstrations and unfair labor practice charges before the National Labor Relations Board and collective bargaining from 1977-1979.

Charles was an Associate Counsel with Proskauer Rose Goetz & Mendelson representing Fortune 200 management clients and major institutions such as Time, Inc., Citibank, Carnegie Hall and the Mount Sinai Hospital in labor disputes, employment litigation, arbitrations and collective bargaining from 1979-1982.

Charles also worked as an Associate Counsel at White & Williams in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania defending CIGNA and its insureds in commercial litigation and management clients in labor disputes, including obtaining an injunction to prevent illegal secondary picketing and in defense of employers in employment litigation from 1982-1983.

Charles was co-bond counsel and underwriters’ counsel in five (5) City of Philadelphia finance transactions as Associate Counsel at Atkinson & Archie from 1986-1987. He lobbied successfully on behalf of the Sun Oil Company for self-service gas implementation before the Philadelphia Zoning Board and the Philadelphia City Council.


Charles is active as Chair for St. Philips Church Rector Search Committee and as Vice President of The Williams Club of New York Board of Directors. He is also Co-Head Class Agent for The William Penn Charter School and served as Head Class Agent for Williams College Alumni Society from 2009-2014.
